Romney Marsh Dog Training Club

Specialising in Puppy & Dog training for Companion Dogs, Romney Marsh Dog Training Club is a non-profit making club based in Newchurch, Romney Marsh, Kent. We follow the Kennel Club's Good Citizen Dog Scheme with particular emphasis on training well socialised dogs who enjoy the company of both people and other dogs. We often have young handlers working their dogs and achieving all standards of the Kennel Club's Good Citizen Dog Scheme Awards.

We are run by a team of four who work on a voluntary basis, three Trainers and our Treasurer. Our aim is to turn out well behaved dogs with confident, knowledgeable owners and to this end we continuously update our own knowledge, attending seminars, lectures or training courses every year.

Dog Training is an evolving science (with a little bit of art), dogs are no longer yanked about on the end of choke chains and shouted at, and it's important to keep up to date with the latest research and changes in the Law. Each year we choose an animal charity or two to support . This year our chosen charities are Canine Partners (Charity No: 25166146) and Dogs Trust (Charity No: 227523).

Our Team consists of Judith our Treasurer who meets everyone on arrival and deals with booking in all the classes.

From Spring to Autumn we organise group walks for our members and their dogs. These often end with a pub lunch or a picnic/barbeque. Judith is our Head Chef on these occasions.

We have three Trainers, Anna, Cherry and Barbara

and for the summer 2 classes. All our Trainers have dogs of their own. The 4 dogs currently owned by them

are all trained to KC Good Citizen Gold standard

or beyond, and all enjoy nothing more than meeting

up on a group walk with other club members and their dogs, helping new dogs fit in and hopefully

sharing a leftover sausage if it's a Barbeque day.

Class 1 is taken by Barbara and is for puppies and young dogs up to 1 year old. We use modern reward based training methods and take dogs through their Puppy Foundation and on towards Bronze, using confidence building exercises for happy, confident dogs.

Class 2 is taken by Anna and deals with dogs over one year of age and covers the KC Good Citizen Bronze & Silver Awards building on the skills gained.

Class 3 is taken by Cherry. In this class dogs are expected to work off lead and it covers the KC Good Citizen Silver & Gold Awards. During the summer months this class often works out side in the Jubilee Field.
